I live in Rhuthun, North Wales (UK) and am married with a 5 year old daughter.

My background is in management consultancy and financial derivatives (for a variety of international banks) - my main success drivers in these roles spun around complex mathematical modelling and making computer systems do things other people hadn't even thought of trying.

In 2000 I left banking to try my hand at an internet business idea I'd had - I wrote a client server application that used lot of javascript (500k) and perl. At the heart of the system was a very heavy use of AJAX and JSON a long long time before anyone had even come up this these terms. The concept was ahead of its time, baffled most webusers and was not a financial success. I now write custom components, bespoke client/server apps built around Joomla or Zend Framework.

About the Fish:

My Involvement with the Fish started because I got frustrated with the limited number of components that supported the fish out of the box - I started by making changes to the Events component (and am now the lead developer on JEvents) but soon realised that changes could be made to Mambelfish (and subsequently Joomfish) that would enable many more components to become multilingual. My main technical contribution has therefore been the fiddly regexp analysis of queries to enable Joomfish to handle aliases, primary keys not called "id" and multi-table queries.
