This FAQ isn't proofreaded or something like that, so if you notice spelling errors or other mistakes, please notify me via a PM on the forums.

1: I have this parse error when I click on Control Panel:
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_OLD_FUNCTION' or `T_FUNCTION' or `T_VAR' or `'}'' in c:\program files\easyphp1-8\www\administrator\components\com_joomfish\classes\JCacheStorageJFDB.php on line 52

You are running PHP4. Joom!Fish needs PHP 5 to run (It's not yet compatible with PHP 5.3). In your Joomla! backend: help > system info, you can check which version you're running

2: In my default language I also see the 'there are no translations available' message.

First thing to try: go to your language manager and set your second language to default and then your first language again. (So reset the default language).

If this doesn't solve the issue: Go to the language configuration in Joom!Fish (components > Joom!Fish > languages) and check if you don't have any fallback language for the default language.

3: I want the default language to show up first when someone enters my website

Right now the default setting for language selection upon new visits is to determine the browser settings. If you want to change that you can go to the JFrouter plugin (extensions > plugins) and set 'Language selection for new visitors' to 'site default language'

4: When I change my language on the frontend, my menu's don't change. (by the way, I'm using sh404sef)

I'm sorry, I don't know the real answer to this, because I only use Joomla!'s core SEF (Maybe the answer is in the SEF forum: . There are more problems with 3rd party SEF extensions and Joom!Fish. When you use a 3rd party SEF extension, you must turn off the JFrouter plugin, because the other extension does the routing of the URL's.

5: I've installed Joom!Fish but I get a blank page on my control panel

Please check your memory_limit. If it's higher than 32 MB's Joom!Fish should work without any problems. If it's lower, try to increase your memory_limit. You can find your memory_limit in your Joomla! backend when you go to help > system info > php information tab.

If you're on a localhost (like Xampp) und running it from a USB stick for example, then it could be a problem with the max_execution_time. I increased my max_execution_time to 300 seconds to make sure that isn't causing any problems.

6: I made a language inactive, but I'm still seeing it while I'm on the frontend

You're probably logged in on the frontend and you're manager or above. If you log out, you cannot see it anymore. In the parameters you can change this behaviour. The parameters button is on the top right of the Joom!Fish Control Panel.

7: Do I need to translate to my default language?

No you don't. Joom!Fish won't display the 'no translations available message' when you're in the default language. In the parameters you can set to 'not to display the default language in the administration'. (Components > Joom!Fish > Control Panel > Parameters button on the top right)

8: I do not want to display certain menu-items in my second language

There are 2 ways to do this. The easy way is to get the club members addon, and then you have an extra button when you're editing a menu item which puts up a dialog where you can select the language where this items must be displayed (or not).

The less easy way is to create multiple menu's and to use the conditional statements on the module positions, to display the right menu module in the right language. For more information see this blogpost.

9: I want to hide untranslated articles in my category (or section blog)

Again, more than one way to do this. The easy was is to get the Content Table Localisation plugin (silver club member addon), and you can hide untranslated articles and untranslated modules.

The difficult way (it's not so easy) has to do with smart section and categories setup. This means that you have to duplicate the content you want to show in more languages. For more information read the How to setup your site to use different information per language with core Joom!Fish article.

10: My second language displays when I select my default language

Can you check in your translation overview if you translated into the right language? When you select a language in the translations you need to select the language you want to translate to. And please check if you don't have a fallback language set up for your default language

11: I have another question

Did you check out the video tutorials and the how-to section? We also have the forums where questions can be asked and answered. Before you post a question, please search the forums first.

On the forums we have 'club support forums' where you get premium support from the Joom!Fish team (more info and prices). There are also community support forums. When we have time we try to answer some questions there, but it's meant as community support, so you need to help each other.

If you post a question, make sure you're running the latest Joomla! and Joom!Fish version. Include in your post as much details a possible. We need some system info, you can get this from your Joomla! backend via help > system info. If you got any error message, please post this message. Set error reporting to maximum (via site > global configuration > server tab). Post a link to your website if it's live. If it's on your localhost, post relevant screenshots.

Last but not least: when you're browsing the forums and you see a question you can answer, don't hesitate and post an answer.
