Dear friends of the Joom!Fish project, It is our pleasure to announce the immediate availability of the public release of Joom!Fish 2.0 Release Candidate. A big thank goes to everyone interested in the project, from contributors, supporters, end users, third party developers and of course our families and friends for their patience when we were giving our time to the project.
Joom!Fish 2.0 is the full featured release of Joomla's free multilingual extension. It is considered stable for productive use after a long phase of Beta testing. All features are implemented and depending on the community feedback we will look forward releasing the stable version soon.
What is new in Joom!Fish 2.0?
The long awaited release of Joom!Fish 2.0 includes various new features and addtional integrations within the Joomla 1.5 framework. The extension is optimized to be fully native integrated and supports the new features Joomla offers. A brief overview of the various information you can get here:
- What's new in Joom!Fish 2.0?
- Upgrade instructions (how to upgrade from Joom!Fish beta 2 or other prior versions);
- How to install (brand new video tutorials offered by the Joom!Fish team);
- Ask for support (post any issues in our forums);
- Write a fair review (you love Joom!Fish or you think it is great or you just think we could do it better - write a review in the Joomla! Extensions Directory);
- Contribute (we need more extensions translations, a dedicated 3PD content elements person, help screens translations, documentation translations etc.);
Should I use Joom!Fish 2.0 RC1 at live site?
Yes, our release policy is such that RC versions are expected to do not contain any priority 1, 2 or 3 bugs. What does it means? RC version could have minor bugs that have no impact on the performance (i.e. non-translated strings in the backend or other small issues that would be never understand by a site visitor).
Joom!Fish at your own language
We have more than dozen of translations at the moment, which can be found at our downloads section. If there is no translation available, please check if it started and if it is not, consider contributing it. Contributors gain full Club Member access for the period they contribute.
Our documentation policy
With the new release we will update our online documentation for the public. There is already a first step included in the distribution using the Joomla! help system. More documentation and guidelines will be written. Additionally, we aim to provide video tutorials online, specific tips and tricks via our web site. The developers documentation will be updated as well and include some more details. We are even currently working on documentation for developers that want to build Joom!Fish plugins which interact with their own extensions. If you have a good hint for the public please think about submitting this as an article to us e.g by using the forum. Everybody who helps with the documentation is considered as contributor and with that will get the benefits related to this.
For our Club Members a full user manual will be completed soon. This manual includes some additional information and more detailed step by step introductions to the various elements of Joom!Fish 2.0. It is our policy that we allow, with explicit permission from our side, translations of this manual to be distributed in a free manner. What does it means? If you are a Club Member and you translate the documentation into your language (of course provide us with copy), you are free to distribute the translated version free of charge. Now is the question how to become a Club Member without paying for it? What about supporting us with translating Joom!Fish to your language or help to write or translate the general translation - this grands you the Club Member status.
