The Version 1.8 is released as stable product and will be the last version for the Joomla! 1.0.x codebase. It will include several new feautres valuable for administrators and users as well some migration features for the developers and translators. The primary goal of this release is to build a stable base of features which can be used for a longer period and for all users requireing the old Joomla! version. For now on we are in the maintenance phase for this release and will only fix new bugs and security issues. This maintenance will last until 12 month after the release of Joom!Fish 2.0, which is not scheduled yet.

The Joom!Fish 1.8 release will not be compatible with Joomla! 1.5 at all. Not even with compability mode switched on!

The following list of features is a non-complete overview of items which have been implemented or are suposed to be implemented for 1.8 still.

Already implemented

The features listed here are alraedy implemented and can be tested using the SVN/truck version.

• Content element installer
  This feature allows you to install and uninstall content element XML files without using FTP or other external tools
• Orphan check
  This check allows to remove orphan translations for your database. In combination with the new translation check it allows a very simple management of missing or outdated translations
• XHTML complaint backend and module
• New module layout with flag
• New short code for languages to allow better integration in SEO extensions
• Fixed several reported bugs and feature requests e.g. in content element files.
• Enhanced performace and better support for high volume sites
• Language file transformation to new INI file layout (work in progress)
• Change to MVC pattern style development (refactoring of existing methods/classes)
• Language parameters to support config variables and other elements to be translated
• Option to store original content in MD5, original value or both for future features
