Asking for your feedback

Postby alex on Wed Oct 24, 2007 9:40 am

Hi all,

I would like to invite you to share some of your thoughts and ideas about Joom!Fish at the moment and what is related to the next release. As you all know we are rewriting the code for 1.5 to become native 1.5 complaint which is very important for us. I also like to use this chance to rethink our strategy, get your feedback about how you like the extension and what you don't like. Please do not hesitate to critic our extension, this is also valid feedback and might be the source of future improvements.

Thanks for your help, support and the usage of the Joom!Fish

Yes I got the same impression :).

The plan at the moment is to give you a two step approach. We are preparing a Joom!Fish plugin that is nativ 1.5. Together with a native module this is already a first step. The second is that we prepare the component to be working within the 1.5 environment. The extension will be transfered into a legacy mode compatible version and after that into a native version.

Hi Alex & the whole Joom!Fish dev team,

what do you think about the starting date of realizing your plans and how long does it take to prepare a first "beta" version of joomfish for joomla 1.5?

Thanks

We started already. We finished the migration extension scripts already. So basically you could transfer your Joom!Fish 1.8 site to a Joomla! 1.5 core already.

At the moment we are developing a native module and system plugin that allow you to run your site already in Joomla! 1.5 native mode. Those are the two maijor elements.

There is good chance we get the component re-factored a bit so that it runs in a let's say semi-native mode. We would keep our current structure and classes but integrate the primary native requirements of Joomla! 1.5. We expect this development to be quite fast. From this stage we plan to re-factor the component totally to increase performance and features in the backend.

Do you have already a Joomla! 1.5 site which is based on an old installation?

Hi,

Joom!Fish is separated in various extensions. Beside the component we also have a plugin and several modules.

For Joomla! 1.5 the plugin and modules are critical. So what we will do is going to release them separately and with that allow you to install a Joom!Fish 2.0 system plugin and a Joom!Fish 1.8 on your site as a kind of transition phase until the component is fully re-factored and implemented natively for Joomla! 1.5.

At the moment you can NOT install Joom!Fish 1.8 on Joomla! 1.5 as it is!

Hi,
I also started a new multilanguage website with joomla 1.5
what do you think, how long does it take until the first prerelease of Joom!Fish is available which can be used with a new website based on joomla 1.5?
Thanks

Well, we all love that questions don't we :)
Even, if Alex is able to set some kind of a timeline for development, it is pretty unsure how much it will take for bug solving and testing.
I am personally planning to make a lot more tests, as due to the lack of those on the upgrade functions in 1.8.0, there were some silly bugs.
