Upgraded to beta2: Blank Site, zip, nada

Postby ilox on Wed Jul 09, 2008 4:56 am

Following advice in the Welsh Forum on Joomla I upgraded our development site to the beta 2 plugins. Almost all loaded up OK, a couple failed to install with reports of something already occupying the folder where it wanted to install.
I went into Plugin Manager and made public all the new plugins. For my effort I got blank pages. Zero, nothing at all, no error messages, nothing. Nothing in the Administrator either so I cant go in and make anything Unpublished.

* PHP version: 5.2.5
* Web Server software: Apache 2.0.63
* Server Operating system: CENTOS Enterprise 4.6 i686 on xen
* Database version: MySQL v4.1.22
* Joomla version: 1.5.4
* memory_limit from your phpinfo 32Mb

Oh, and I set the site into debug mode through FTP but there is zero traffic being generated for the pages, not even View Source gives me any sort of information that I can use. :o
Cheers, Ian

Post error reporting to maximum (not debugging - disable debugging) from the joomla configuration.

Thanks Ivo, am setting that level of reporting now. I disabled debugging as it made no difference to any characters coming through. Later in the day I realised that I could Unpublish items through phpMyAdmin. I logged in and working firstly through the Plugins I unpublished the Joomfish plugins testing for the site operation between each transaction. Here is the order that I unpublished until I got the site back working again.

Order of files Unpublished before site resumed working:
1. Joomfish - Missing Translation
2. Search - Joomfish Weblinks
3. Search - Joomfish Sections jfsections
4. Search - Joomfish Newsfeeds jfnewsfeeds
5. Joomfish - Abstraction Layer jfdatabase
6. Search - Joomfish Categories jfcategories
7. Joomfish - Basic Router jfrouter
8. Search - Joomfish Content jfcontent
9. Search - Joomfish Contacts jfcontacts
10. mod_jflanguageselection

So, site is back to being visible but I am not sure where to go from here in order to get JoomFish working again.

Here is the current Extension State from the Control Panel. What is the message about jfdatabase?

Extension State
jfcategories Unpublished
jfcontacts Unpublished
jfcontent Unpublished
jfnewsfeeds Unpublished
jfsections Unpublished
jfweblinks Unpublished
jfdatabase Unpublished
jfdatabase Order not correct
jfalternative not installed!
Joom!Fish language selection Unpublished
JoomFish Direct Translation Unpublished

Although we have done a lot of work trying to get this setup I am prepared to remove Joomfish and reinstall if you think that would help resolve this problem. We are not yet Live but not that far away either.
Cheers, Ian

You should a leave these published and put error reporting on maximum in order to view what causes the blank screen.

What languages you have installed?
What languages you have activated?
What short codes did you used?
What sef prefixes did you enter in the router plugin?

Sorry for not adding that info. The default language is English, the installed language is Welsh and that has been activated and up until now working very well.
Short codes? None that I am aware of.
SEF prefixes? None.

You should have short codes in the Joom!Fish language manager???
It is something like en or cy etc.

Sorry for being away so much. The default language used is en-GB, the secondary language used is cy-GB.
Hope this helps.

You are not reading what I write. Go to the Joom!Fish language manager and check if you have put short codes.
