Please: Enlighten us about Joomfish's future

This forum is to discuss everything related the future release of Joom!Fish dedicated to Joomla releases 1.7 and higher. The first edition of this release will be re-using the existing data storage logic and therefore be compatible with the Joom!Fish 2.2 released regarding table structure and logic.

Please: Enlighten us about Joomfish's future

I can well understand if you find our nagging curiosity about Joomfish support for Joomla 1.7 annoying, but couldn't you embrace it as a clear sign of Joomfish's tremendous value for the Joomla community? I hope you do.

Couldn't you then, out of courtesy to your loyal followers – or just out of sheer generosity :-) – break the silence and just provide an indication if our long wait will be rewarded – or if it is in vain? Will there be a Joomfish for Joomla 1.7 (soon)? Please shed some light in this darkness... ;)

Crazy!! I was paying for Joomfish also and now the new Joomla versions are just not supported anymore... can't migrate/update the joomla version cause all translations would be lost - horrible situation, desperately need joomfish for 1.7 actually!
checking this forum since 3 months now... always same status, everybody asking when there is any progress and no answers... last announcement from April/May... weird,... joomfish project dead?? :( :(

the way information is passed from joomfish is really terrible. no news or schedule on the website or in the forum. instead some people who attendet the joomladay in hamburg where told, that there is a heavy beta testin going on the club.

but in the club, i don't see anything just faces with questionmarks? :?:

Hi all,

First of all I have never told anybody in Hamburg that Beta-Testing was going on in the club. This might be the wish of people but not what I said.

I say what I always said, we are developing and testing on the new version. The status was quite similar to the one we published a while ago. We have a version that allows to translate most of the stuff but not the parameters. Since 2 weeks Geraint found a solution to translate parameters and I cleaned up some inconsistencies that Joomla Platform development and CMS implemented in 1.7 and the corresponding platform release (after changing the JDatabase methods and their declarations).

So what is the future?
We are working on a 1.7 compatible version for JoomFish but to make this very clear, we consider it as unstable as Joomla 1.7 is! From my perspective 1.7 is somehow a development release for something that will be released in January 2012. Personally I will not build any of my professional websites on it. The underlying framework as well as the whole integration is un-complete. We just discovered that the work on the MVC model is not complete and JForms is not integrated in all aspects. Instead there are again changes in the platform structure and method declarations.

Considering all this it becomes pretty clear for me that JoomFish will focus on the long-term releases in future. We very likely not release anything for Joomla 3.0 or 3.1 or 3.2 when it will be released. All we will release will be development prototypes and verifications for the integration but not an official, long-term supported release. The Joomla roadmap meeting in October showed that the Joomla core devs have visions for again completely changing the underlying architecture and this will not make it stable for us to work with these versions.

Instead we will focus on the long-term releases and plan a release of JoomFish along to these versions. Anything that we will release before the stable, long-term release of Joomla will be something like a proof of concept that is, as usual for us, stable. However we will not recommend using Joomla 1.7 together with JoomFish as e.g. the migration path of Joomla is unclear at the moment.

Now what does this mean in terms of dates - work is still in progress and it would be pretty unserious to tell you a date yet. It depends on the number of issues we still find to get the JoomFish extension working well with Joomla 1.7.

Hi Alex,

thanks for this answer. Even if this is not the answer many people would have dreamed of (like ok we will have a solution for the not very stable 1.7 by end of next week) it is something i can work with and rely on. The bad thing was not the answer, it was the yes/no/maybe someday/next week lack of clarity.

So thanks for the clear answer.

I just created a Google+ Page and used our Joomla 1.7 development build for the screen shot ;-). So yes we are working on the version and it is already available on github for developers. However it is a really unstable version that needs still work.

I'm pretty sure we can work on it and we will release a 1.7 version. As I said it is not a version that we will suggest to be used by non-developers in their sites.

Just want to point that most of the people in this forum will agree with me, as a multilingual website Designer what make Joomla great and a real pro CMS solution was Joomfish.

It’s obvious that the Joomla team didn’t recognize this and just blindly go their own way without considering that fact.

Joomla 1.5 without Joomfish is not a pro CMS solution.

Please, be considerate, the real problem here are the Joomla Dev’s and everybody complaining here should continue to give monetary support to Joomfish and go straight to Joomla forums to point to them that very fact.

Joomla 1.6/1.7 Language forum

If I was a top Joomla decision Maker, I will have phone the people behind Joomfish before doing any 1.6/1.7 .

Joomla 1.6/1.7 is not a Pro CMS solution anymore.

Maybe it’s time to move on... Wordpress, Concrete, Drupal (Really sad to say that but...)

Or pray and support the people behind joomfish to take us out of that mess...
