JoomFish 2.5 - Alpha 2 package VM2 ready?

This forum is to discuss everything related the future release of Joom!Fish dedicated to Joomla releases 1.7 and higher. The first edition of this release will be re-using the existing data storage logic and therefore be compatible with the Joom!Fish 2.2 released regarding table structure and logic.

JoomFish 2.5 - Alpha 2 package VM2 ready?

Postby keepitpromo on Fri May 11, 2012 6:58 am

Hello,

Before I purchase my Silvler membership to be able to download the Joomfish 2.5 Alpha package I would like to confirm that it is working perfectly fine with VM2 ?

I know that the development version had some issues when attempting to view the Virtuemart products (made the products dissappear).

Is this still an issue with Joomfish 2.5 Alpha ?

Thx

In the post viewtopic.php?f=48&t=11186&p=38132#p38132 you mentioned your problem with VirtueMart and the developers version. Of course you can get the latest developer version here https://github.com/JoomFish/jf-future and try it yourself, from what I've tested jf-future has improved quite a lot since that post.

On viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11378 Alex says
alex wrote:As already said, the extension is in an early alpha status.
"Alpha" means that you cannot expect it to work flawlessly, but it's ready to take a peek and try things. See for example Klas' post viewtopic.php?f=48&t=11356&p=38745&hilit=alpha#p38745 (Klas is working hard on jf-future as you can see from the commits he does: https://github.com/JoomFish/jf-future/commits/master).

Note: I haven't tried jf-future (nor JoomFish 2.2.3 for that matter) with VirtueMart, I have tried one other third party component with JoomFish and that had a problem which I want to look into before posting it as an issue.

Is it ready? I tried it with the Dev version of 20.05.2012. not shown the product right in Kategories view.

Howto get the Products shown in VM2.06 with Joomfish?
maybe the is a file provided like Virtuemart2_joomfish2.0.3 but only for Joomfish 2.5?

Thank you, for an nice solution.

Just curious - why do you think you need Joomfish for VM2?
VM2 has it's own multi-language system (I almost finished a bilingual shop with 500+ products plus product variants using this). So I would expect some conflicts when you have two extensions trying to do the same job.

Why use Joomfish in VM2?
May i put the answer in a question.
How clear is the SEO for a single language?
joomFish like? tld/de/product tld/eng/product

What are your experience?

I did assign every product to a shop category, so the urls are i.e.

tld/en/englishcategoryname/productname-detail
tld/de/germancategoryname/productname-detail

Reports on SEO performance for life Virtuemart 2.x shops are very positive. (Much better than for Virtuemart 1.x shops)

The answer why I would rather use Joomfish instead of VM2 multilanguage is because I will not be doing my own translations. So hiring a freelancer to do the translation of a language using VM2 would raise some security concerns.

On top of that, Joomfish helps keep track on what is and what is not translated and helps follow a schedule with the hired translator.

I couldn't wait any longer and I uploaded my new Website (from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5) however without the translations. I was expecting my pagerank to drop and thankfuly it hasnt. However the hits dropped drastically.

I hope Joomfish 2.5 Beta is released sometime soon.
