JF-Future and Joomla 2.5 working - or am I wrong?

This forum is to discuss everything related the future release of Joom!Fish dedicated to Joomla releases 1.7 and higher. The first edition of this release will be re-using the existing data storage logic and therefore be compatible with the Joom!Fish 2.2 released regarding table structure and logic.

JF-Future and Joomla 2.5 working - or am I wrong?

Postby keepitpromo on Sun Mar 04, 2012 8:55 pm

Hello,

I have installed the JF-Future (under development) on my Joomla 2.5 testing site and so far I can see it working just fine (with a small thing I had to figure out to make it fully functional). Other than that I can completely use Joomfish on my Joomla 2.5 site now.

But before I install it on a live site I would like to ask if any of you guys have tried it and if it works for you too?

Thx

What was the "small thing" you had to figure out? If it's a bug/issue, is it in the issues list?

For me, jf-future, at this moment, is not ready yet for a production site (there are still some issues on the issues-list and I experience some problems in the front-end that I need to write up properly and/or check versus the latest commits). However, jf-future is still improving, and bugs/problems are being fixed and addressed.

I'm sure that's good news for all the people working on jf-future!

The problem was that once I activated the joomfish module the language flags appeared on the front end as they should. However, when I clicked on a flag to switch to another language (at the front-end) then the flags dissapeared. To fix this (as I urgently needed a solution) I created a copy of the module for each language I used. This way I set each module's default language to a different one until all the languages of my site were met.

I hope this makes sense.

So far I do not experience any problems and I will soon use this method to place the joomfish on our upgraded offline-site as it was the only thing missing before making it live.

I'd like to try to find out what causes this...

Did you check the Language setting for the module, i.e. being "All"?
Did you check the Menu Assignment for the module?

My "JF Language Selection" module shows a "Raw display of images" (Basic Options in the module). E.g. a flag for each language. The module stays visible for each language while switching languages in the frontend.

I've attached a screenshot with my settings. What settings do you have different?

System: Joomla 2.5.1, PHP 5.2.9, Apache 2.2.11 (Xampp on Windows).

There is no such option 'All'. Please see screenshot attached

It seems that there is 1 more bug I bumped into so I guess I will have to wait until Joomfish is fully developed :)

The other problem I found was that when activating the plugin 'Joomfish - Database Abstraction Layer' then all the product descriptions/images from the Virtuemart shop are no longer available.

Do you have the plugin "jfoverrides"? If so, can you disable it?

It is an experimental override plugin that removes "All languages" option from the interface (see Klas' comment in https://github.com/JoomFish/jf-future/i ... nt-4147824).

(I really want to find some time to check out the lastes commits in jf-future... including this commit.)

Goal is to make the whole Joomla behave in Joomfish way, so that the same as in 1.5. JF version, default language (usually en-GB) behaves similar to "All languages" option in core Joomla. So in short - it is joomfish way that default language is shown when there is no translation. Since it is correct that there is no All option anymore, but assigning it to "en-Gb" or whatever your default site language is should create the same result, if not this is a bug.

I have tried to findout if Joomfish is compatible with Joomla 2.5 with no luck.

So I have downloaded JoomFish2.2.3.zip

When I try to install it there is a line on the screen that says: "Multilingual extention and translation manager for Joomla! 1.5.x "

Does this version work in Joomla 2.5?

Thanks
