JFLanguageSelection Module Not Displaying Language

Postby geoffwalke on Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:45 am

Hello,

I have translated the language names in joomfish, but the module is not displaying the translated languages when in that language.

Example:
English -> Ingles
Spanish -> Espanol

Joomfish 2.2.3
Joomla 1.5.26

Please advise.

This is not exactly what you ask for, but still...
I set the "Title native" in the Content Languages (Backend > Components > Joomfish > Content Languages) for the different languages in their own language (e.g. Español instead of spanish and Nederlands instead of Dutch), this seems to be used for the language names in the language selection module.

That works, but is not what the client wants. Is there no way for the JFLanguageSelection module to use the translations?

Not that I know of or can see (but that can be just me)...

Out of curiosity: what does "the client" want?

When I see a multilingual site and there are names of the languages to use, I prefer to see "Nederlands" (which is "Dutch" in dutch) over any translation of Dutch in other languages. Reason: for a few languages I know what Dutch is in that language, but for most of the languages in the world I wouldn't recognise the translation. It appears that I miss the reason for having these language names translated in different languages...

The customer wants the languages translated to be correct when viewing that language.

For example, when in English:
English > English
Spanish > Spanish

When in Spanish Pages:
English > Ingles
Spanish > Espanol

I think there is no way to do this... personaly i always change the name of the language in native name hiding the active language flag.

English -> English
German -> Deutsch
Italian -> Italiano
