The new release of Joomla! will require many changes to existing extensions. The whole new framework and the refactored code base is basically a maijor release with some backwards capabilities. As the Joom!Fish is highly integrated into the core system it is basically a new development for us as well.
The development for the Joom!Fish version 2.0 started in December 2007. The project released a first Alpha on March 3rd 2008 for all supporters. A Beta version will be released in April 2008 and the release candidate is expenced soon after.
The current work of the Joom!Fish project is always free accessible on the subversion server of the project. Please be reminded that for the subversion version we do not give any support.
What will be new on Joom!Fish 2.0?
The primary changes will be to the extension source coding and internal features. We will change the whole backend to fit to the new MVC pattern and use as many of the new features provided by the Joomla! 1.5 framework. The primary goal for 2.0 is to build a stable version which works for Joomla! 1.5 as soon as possible.
Will be integrated in the release
The features listed below are a must for us in order to provide a good version for our community
- MVC pattern integration for backend and frontend
- Complete usage of Joomla! 1.5 framework features
- Refactory of XML library - usage of content element files
- XML/RPC support
- Joom!Fish integrated plugin system
- Translation manager in the frontend
Nice to have features
Those features might get into the release or may be into a new release, we do not know yet. Depends on fun.
- Something we have not really thought about
